What grades does Academia Avance serve?

Academia Avance is programmed to serve 6th through 12th grade. The school opened with just 6th and 7th in the Fall of 2005. Each year following, a higher grade has been added.

How many students will be enrolled?

At full enrollment, Academia Avance will have about 420 students. The table below presents the planned enrollment growth.

How can I get my child enrolled?

The school has an open enrollment policy set by capacity for the middle school grades. There are no residency nor academics requirements. Any student residing in California is welcome, of any academic status, including special needs students with an IEP. Openings for the middle school grades are filled from the waiting list for those grades. The order of the list is set at the close of the inscription period in the Spring before the start of the academic year. Check the Calendar for specific dates for the upcoming academic year. La escuela tiene incsripciones abiertas segun la capacidad de los 6°, 7°, 8° grados. No hay requisitos académicos ni de zona de residencia. Las aberturas para los 6°, 7°, 8° grados se llenan según la lista de espera. El orden de la lista se fija en el cierre del período de la inscripción en la primavera antes del comienzo del año académico. Academia Avance is NOT a private school. It is an independently chartered public school. It receives funding from the California Department of Education from your tax dollars.

Under what government oversight is Academia Avance?

The Academia Avance charter was approved by the Los Angeles Unified School District on May 24, 2005. The LAUSD has a direct oversight role over the school, conducting numerous visits of the school throughout the year. Avance must also file an annual audit report with the state. As a public charter school, Avance must follow the pertinent local, state and federal laws. This page lists major assertions to this effect.
